Message from the Office of Honorable Howard Frawley, Village Mayor
Welcome to the Village of Angola's website.
My name is Howard "Hub" Frawley and I am the proud Mayor of our one square mile friendly community.
We are located in the Town of Evans, just 30 miles south of Buffalo. We offer small-town living located near the beautiful Lake Erie Shoreline. We are a friendly walk-able community with many amenities.
Our Village offers a beautiful Gazebo Park which hosts concerts every Wednesday evening throughout the summer, a creek side park (Herman Park) for picnics, basketball and lawn sports and the Frawley Park playground for younger children to enjoy. There are two Lakeshore Central Elementary school buildings located in the Village and the Middle School and High School are nearby. Children safely walk to and from these schools. We also have two local churches and new and old local businesses including Shultz and Company Hardware and Evans Insurance and Banking, see our business highlights below for other local businesses. Main Street has been beautified with new Sidewalks, light poles, a community clock, Benches, Trees and Flower Boxes, and a new Holly Housing-Senior Housing Developement and now is undergoing a new updated Facade program through Erie County. Our Village is the perfect place to live and a community where you can enjoy a sunny walk to chat with neighbors.

Mayor's Notebook
Since becoming Mayor in April 2005, I have been very active in many government-related organizations. This involvement has provided me, and the Village Board, with information and opportunities that have helped us to keep moving forward in the Village. We have been working very hard for the betterment of the entire community. The Village is financially sound and our goal is to keep it that way. At this time, I would like to give you and our residents, a review of what has been going on in our Village.
As a full board, we have worked long and hard to accomplish many goals and we will continue to move forward
We have applied for, and received, a grant for a Senior Housing project through HUD and People Incorporated. The housing is now located on North Main Street and houses 39 1-bedroom units for low to moderate income seniors.
We purchased a used aerial (ladder) truck for the Angola Fire Department out of the Fire Department's equipment reserve. This aerial serves Angola and all surrounding communities.
We also secured a grant for the Angola Fire Department to purchase a Cascade Unit (to fill air bottles) for seven local fire companies. This unit is now installed at the South Main Street Fire Station.
We also secured a grant for an emergency generator for the Village Hall. We are currently seeking more funding to purchase a larger unit that will run the offices and the Fire Department if the Village should lose power.
We completed Phase II of the Angola Streetscape Project, revitalizing North Main Street with sidewalks, lights, benches, memorial stones and memorial trees and antique street signs.
The Village of Angola is working with the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning on a Facade Program for the Business district in Angola. Business's are encouraged to sign up for this program that offers a 50/50 match for Facade updates such as windows, siding, signage etc.
We secured a grant from Restore NY and demolished the Old K&L Building. The County is now offering this corner lot located on North Main at Center Street, for development.
We also received a Grant for the Herman Park Enhancement Project from NYS Dept of Parks and Recreation. This project is near completon. We installed a bathroom, two new shelters for a total of three, and are currently working on a nice walking path around the perimeter of the park. The Streambank has recently been stabilized thanks to a grant from FEMA. Soon, we will work on funding for playground equipment.
If anyone has not taken a ride down South Main Street, please do so. We are proud to support the growth of Goya Foods Great Lakes International and their construction of a 12-million dollar expansion project. In September 2010 the Goya Company started another addition at the South Main Street sight.
Our board continues to work on Tourism by capitalizing on our rich railroad history. We are planning a memorial based on the train disaster of 1867, as well as a park that will showcase the depot.
the Southtowns Community Enhancement Coalition has put together an "Agritourism" brouchure of a diverse collection of farm businesses, historic sites, entertainment venues, recreational amenities, antique shops, boutiques and more
The New Angola Theater just completed improvements, thanks to CDBG funding for renovations.
Our board has been successful in completing a series of sidewalk replacement projects and waterline replacements with the help of CDBG monies and your tax dollars. We will continue to do so many per year, whatever our budget allows.
October 1, 2011 will mark four years of police protection administered by the Town of Evans Police Department. I have heard nothing but wonderful remarks as to the level and quality of protection our residents have experienced.
As a board, we are proud of these accomplishments, and will continue to strive for the betterment of all of our residents. Keep your eyes open for new projects such as a Library expansion, tax relief for vacant properties and water meter reading system.
Please feel free to input your ideas or concerns at our board meetings. We meet at the Village Hall, every second Monday of the month at 7:00PM
Hope to see you visiting our Village
