Rental Permits

Requirements for all Rental Units  PDF Version
● Smoke detectors on or near the ceiling in all sleeping areas, common areas outside of sleeping areas (hallways) and on each level of dwelling (including basement).
● Carbon monoxide detectors are required on every level with a CO source and one within 15' of all bedrooms.
● Handrails on at least one side of a staircase.
● Pressure relief valve drain pipe on hot water tanks and on all boilers to within 6" of the floor.
● Metal exhaust pipe on clothes dryer vent.
● Apartment numbers on all doors and house numbers on the front of the building.
● General housekeeping and yard maintenance.
● No broken windows.
● No exposed electrical wiring or missing cover plates.
● Outlets at the kitchen counter top must be GFI protected.
● GFI outlets installed for all outlets in the bathroom.
● Kitchen and bathroom floor must be maintained in good condition and covered with water resistant covering (no carpeting).
● All plumbing fixtures in the kitchen and bathroom must be in working condition and drains must not be leaking.

Operating Permits

Operating Permits are required for conducting the activities or using the categories of buildings listed below:
● Manufacturing, storing or handling hazardous materials in quantities exceeding those in Tables 2703.1.1(1), 2703.1.1(2), 2703.1.1(3) or 2703.1.1(4) in the publication entitled "Fire Code of New York" and incorporated by reference in 19 NYCRR § 1225.1.
● Hazardous processes and activities, including but not limited to commercial and industrial operations which produce combustible dust as a by-product, fruit- and crop ripening, and waste handling.
● Use of pyrotechnic devices in assembly occupancies.
● Buildings containing one or more areas of public assembly with an occupant load of 100 persons or more.
● Buildings whose use or occupancy classification may pose a substantial potential hazard to public safety, as determined by resolution adopted by the Village Board of Village.
